Work begins on Mianyang course

Construction is underway on the first nine of Pacific Coast Design's 27-hole project for Chengdu Hongyuan Investment Co in the Sichuan province of China. The course will run alongside the Chenkangtun Reservoir near the city of Mianyang, and is part of a large residential and resort development.

Water will come into play on many of the holes and large hills alongside the reservoir have allowed the designers to make good use of the elevation changes and deliver a layout that offers a high level of strategic interest.

The project is to be constructed one hole at a time to minimise the construction footprint and preserve the natural vegetation. The first nine – part of which is now grassed – is expected to be ready to play by the end of 2013. Construction of the subsequent two loops will follow with each nine holes planned to be in excess of 3,600 yards.
