Work begins on Pete Dye design at The Ford Plantation
Ground has been broken at the Pete Dye-designed course at The Ford Plantation, with Tim Liddy working alongside Dye on a new restoration project.
“The impetus for this project was to upgrade the infrastructure of the course,” said golf course architect Liddy. “However, we then realised this was also the perfect time for a complete restoration that would renew the greens, bunkers and fairway contouring to align with Mr. Dye’s vision for course. I am thrilled to work beside Mr. Dye to bring his unique touches back to The Ford Plantation golf course.”
Work will take place to improve the course’s drainage and will see the addition of a state-of-the-art irrigation system. The front nine will undergo landscape changes to widen corridors, while the back nine will add bunkers and natural waste areas.
Features of the project will include a new green site on the seventeenth hole, which will be elevated and relocated closer to Lake Clara, providing players with a panoramic view of the property.
MacCurragh Golf Construction will manage the restoration, and is the ninth Pete Dye project the firm has worked on. Work is expected to take a year to complete.
”The end result of the restoration will achieve a number of goals for our community,” said C.W. Canfield, The Ford Plantation director of golf. “The course will be a more enjoyable and playable surface for all skill levels, with architectural enhancements that welcome and guide players through this outstanding Low Country course. It will also give us the distinct privilege of working alongside Hall of Fame architect Pete Dye as we breathe new life into one of his original course designs.”
