Work to upgrade final hole of Forest Pines' Pines nine reaches completion

Upgrades to the final hole of the Pines course at Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort in Lincolnshire, UK, has been completed.

Work began earlier this spring on the 456-yard par-four hole, following an initial consultation with golf course architect Tom MacKenzie. The project was carried out by the Forest Pines greenkeeping team.

A key feature of the work involved the reshaping and relining of the pond to the left-hand side of the green. The hazard was moved into a more predominant position, making it a trickier proposition for players when playing approach shots.

An area to the front-right of the green was remodeled and returfed to allow for a number of new pin positions. A new aeration fountain was installed, and improvements to the drainage around the hole were also carried out.

“We wanted to create a finishing hole that lives long in the memory and we’re confident that we’ve done that with the changes that have been made,” said Andrew Cameron, director of golf at Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort. “Reshaping the pond and making it more visible will give golfers plenty to think about when playing their approach shots, especially for a pin positioned on the left-hand side, while the work completed to the right of the green will help us maximise the full potential of what is now a great final hole.”

Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort is home to 27-holes, comprised of three nines – the Pines, Forest and Beeches. All 27 holes were designed by the late John Morgan.
