Marc Westenborg has designed seven new golf courses and renovated over 50 existing courses, while Cestino’s passion for golf course architecture began 30 years ago when he joined the Spanish amateur team. Since then, Cestino has played or visited most of the ‘Top 100’ golf courses in the world. Westenborg and Cestino, due to their relationship with La Zagaleta, have known each other for more than 10 years and found that they have very similar philosophies when it comes to the game of golf and the natural progression has been to form a collaboration and work together. Westenborg’s career began with the renowned Hawtree Ltd. His most high-profile newbuild designs include Dun Laoghaire in Ireland which hosted the 2014 Curtis Cup and was voted the top parkland golf course in Ireland 2013 and 2015, as well as Rockliffe Hall which hosted the English Senior Open in 2013 and 2014. His most high-profile major renovation projects include Dooks in Ireland, Zagaleta in Spain and Southport & Ainsdale in the UK. Cestino’s experience as a skilled golfer on both sides – amateur and professional – enables him to provide unique insights into the thought processes of an expert golfer, and this combined with Westenborg’s 25 years as a golf course architect, ensures top quality, visually inspiring golf courses to be enjoyed by all golfers.
