Duininck Golf completes final phase of renovation work at TPC Louisiana

Duininck Golf has completed a third and final phase of renovation work at TPC Louisiana, located on the outskirts of New Orleans.

TPC Louisiana first opened in 2004 with a golf course designed by Pete Dye, professional golfer Steve Elkington and Louisiana native Kelly Gibson. It recently hosted the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The New Orleans area is well known for its long rainy seasons and, coupled with the fact that TPC Louisiana is located alongside the wetlands of the Mississippi River Delta, the golf course would frequently have poor soil conditions that would affect playability.

In late 2018, the TPC network initially engaged Duininck Golf to undertake a renovation that included updating irrigations heads, a new pump station and new irrigation controllers. Following the success of that project, a second phase of work was undertaken and completed in spring 2020, which involved renovating bunkers and re-grassing. During this phase, organic material was stripped off all fairways and greens surfaces. Fairways were grassed with new Celebration and greens changed to TifEagle.

From October 2020 to spring 2021, Duininck Golf worked alongside PGA Tour golf course architect Leslie Claytor and TPC Louisiana’s course superintendent Brandon Reese to complete a third phase of work, which focused on updating drainage and building new bunkers. Other work included a total renovation of the irrigation system, as well as renovations to existing bunkers, fairways, greens and waste areas.

“Working in Louisiana presents challenges due to the wet climate, but we are happy to know that the improvements have been well received,” said Ahren Habicht of Duininck Golf.

“The course improvements that took place over the last few years has been well received by the club, the tour, and the players from the most recent 2021 Zurich Classic,” said Judd Duininck. “It was a great opportunity to see the results of our work shine on one of the biggest stages.”
