Golf design industry pays tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral in Scotland on 8 September 2022.

The Queen was the Patron of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. “Although not a golfer, Her late Majesty’s 70-year patronage of the club was a great honour for its members,” said Peter Foster, captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club.

The UK will now enter a period of mourning for the Queen, who marked her 70 years on the throne in 2022, making her the longest-serving British monarch and the second longest-serving monarch of a sovereign country in history.

Key stakeholders in the golf course design community have expressed their sadness at the news and sent their condolences to the Royal family and those in the Commonwealth.

Sir Nick Faldo, retired professional golfer and golf course architect, said: “Sadly on this day the world has lost the most endearing and remarkable monarch it has ever known, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her greatness and legacy will live forever in our hearts and minds. We humbly extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to King Charles and the entire royal family.”

The GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. She was an inspiration to people all around the world and her unwavering, lifelong dedication will be long remembered.”

European Golf Design, said: “Rest in Peace Your Majesty. For our entire lives you have guided us. Thank you.”
