Hudson National under way with renovation project

Architects Tom Marzolf, Rick Phelps and Jeff Lawrence are renovating the golf course at Hudson National Golf Club in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.

The course, which is located 40 miles north of New York City, was laid out by Fazio Design in 1996 on a site around 500 feet above the Hudson River, with the layout having river views on 14 holes.

LaBar Golf Renovations has started construction work, which includes greens, fairways, bunkers, regrassing and new irrigation.

Every green will be rebuilt to USGA specifications and regrassed with 007XL bentgrass. Some greens will be relocated, while others will be redesigned to have more contour to match the rest. A few putting surfaces will be reshaped or expanded to create new pin positions. Some surrounds work will be completed, including the addition of low-mow areas.

Most bunkers will be rebuilt, with all to be fitted with liners from Bunker Solution. Bunkering on fairways will also look and play different, with new bunkers added to nine holes, many existing hazards relocated further from the tee due to advancements in club and ball technology, and some extended into areas of play to pinch the landing areas for longer hitters.

All fairways will be re-seeded with bentgrass and rough will feature a new variety of fescue bluegrass.

“We’re excited to be working with team Fazio to recognise their enhanced vision for the golf course and to make a great golf course even greater,” said Phil Moyles, club president at Hudson National.

The course will reopen in spring 2024.
