Ian Andrew returns to Osprey Valley to renovate North course
Architect Ian Andrew has been hired to lead renovation work on the North course at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Canada.
The 7,151-yard layout was originally designed by Doug Carrick and opened in 2001. The club joined the TPC Network in 2018 and shortly launched the Osprey Valley Open that appears on the PGA Tour Canada schedule.
In consultation with the PGA Tour and TPC Network, the club hired Andrew in 2022 to develop a plan that would increase its status as a high-level championship venue while retaining its appeal for golfers of all abilities.
Andrew, who worked under Carrick on the course’s original construction, plans to achieve this by renovating and expanding greens, as well as relocating bunkers and tees. According to Andrew, strategically placed fairway bunkers will confront the longest hitters and runoff areas will offer multiple recovery shot options around the greens.
“This property, and the North course in particular, is a special place for me, having worked with Doug on the original design of this bold and truly fun golf course,” said Andrew. “With TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley at the forefront of so much excitement in Canadian golf, I’m thrilled to play a part in this project and look forward to continued collaboration with the Osprey Valley team.”
Renovation work will also be carried on the practice facilities, including resurfacing the driving range and the construction of a new short-game area and practice greens.
“For more than 20 years the North course has been known to golfers as a welcoming and wide modern course that players of all skill levels can enjoy,” said Chris Humeniuk, president of TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley. “With this renovation, the course will be elevated into a compelling test for high level championship play while retaining its identity as fun, friendly and accessible for all players.
“Ian has presented us with a compelling approach to supercharge the course in a way that will test elite competitors and make the North a choice venue for high level competition while retaining the playability and fun factor that golfers have come to know and love.”
Work will begin in August and conclude at the end of the 2023 season. On completion, the course will measure over 7,500 yards from the championship tees.
