IMG appointed to manage RTJ II design for Neom megaproject in Saudi Arabia

IMG Golf Course Services has been appointed to provide pre-opening, marketing and management services to the Golf Club at Sindalah, which will have a new nine-hole beachfront golf course designed by the Robert Trent Jones II firm.

Sindalah, part of the $500 billion Neom megaproject in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, is one of a group of islands off the Neom coastline. It is being planned as the Red Sea region’s first superyachting destination and expects to welcome its first guests in early 2024.

The golf course has been designed with two teeing points from each hole, so that it can be played twice to form an 18-hole par-70 course measuring just short of 6,500 yards. There will also be a golf academy with a driving range and practice suites.

The developers are aiming to achieve GEO certification for the course, meaning it demonstrates the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility.

Antoni Vives, chief urban development and islands officer at Neom, said: “Sindalah will be the first physical showcase of Neom to open to the world and will become a new and exotic golfing destination like no other. We are proud to be working with IMG Golf Course Services to bring this premium course from the mind of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. to reality at Sindalah.”

Russell Hannah, vice president of IMG Golf Course Services, said: “We have great expectations for Sindalah Island Golf Club and are looking forward to helping to deliver on NEOM’s vision for what will be one of the most picturesque courses in the region.”

The Neom development is probably best known for its ambitious vision for The Line, a 110-mile long smart city that will have no cars, roads or carbon emissions.
