Jonathan Davison under way with new project in Czech Republic

Construction work has started on a new golf facility, designed by Jonathan Davison of Create Golf, at the Heipark Tošovice resort near Ostrava in the Czech Republic.

The project has been on the drawing board since 2014, but the resort – an all-season destination offering activities including skiing, biking and swimming – had prioritised other projects. But with the country seeing an increase in golf participation following the pandemic, Heipark Tošovice decided to proceed on what will be Davison’s fifth project in the Czech Republic.

The first phase is the construction of a nine-hole par-three layout of around 2,800 yards, with work then turning to a regulation nine-hole course. “The plan for the academy course remains unchanged since 2014, although there will be a small change to the nine-hole regulation layout due to another development,” said Davison. “Hopefully when fully complete the resort will feature a full 18-hole course and a nine-hole academy layout. The idea with the shorter track is to introduce people to golf, providing them with an opportunity to learn the game before progressing to the full regulation course.”

Czech builder HB golf is under way with construction of the academy layout, with a Rain Bird irrigation system to be installed. “For this course, we have snaked the routing, which I think gives it some character and a good mixture of holes,” said Davison. “Like all our projects, we wanted it to be interesting, quirky and fun to play.

“The land for the nine-hole regulation layout features very similar contours and we want it to follow the same principles. We feel that both routings flow over the land, with short walks from greens to tees helping to make them very walkable.

“This is an important project for our company. I truly feel Tošovice Golf Resort will introduce new golfers to the game.”
