Kapalua’s Plantation course set for November reopening

The Kapalua resort in Maui, Hawaii, will reopen its Plantation course on 23 November following a nine-month renovation that has been overseen by original architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.

The design duo has worked with Troon’s Design, Development and Agronomy team and Golf Channel personality Mark Rolfing on the project, which has seen all fairways, tees and rough grassed with Celebration bermuda, while all greens now feature TifEagle bermuda. A Capillary Concrete liner system was also installed in all 93 bunkers.

“The newly refined Plantation course looks and plays amazing,” said Alex Nakajima, general manager, Kapalua Golf & Tennis. “Mahalo to Bill Coore, Ben Crenshaw, Mark Rolfing, the Troon Agronomy Team and Kapalua Golf’s director of agronomy Andrew Rebman and his team for their incredible efforts to have the course ready and in pristine condition by November. We’re excited to welcome locals, Maui visitors and the PGA Tour’s best back to the new Plantation course.”

Plantation’s practice green and chipping green areas have also been rebuilt, grassed with TifEagle bermuda. The practice range tee area was laser-levelled and grassed with Celebration bermuda.

Kapalua’s Plantation course has hosted the PGA Tour’s Sentry Tournament of Champions tournament since 1999 and will do so again in January 2020.
