Plans revealed for new Qatar International Golf Club in Doha

A new golf destination is to be developed in Qatar, according to reports.

Zawya reports that The Qatar International Golf Club will be home to a new 18-hole championship course, a six-hole course and a nine-hole par three course.

Further facilities at the club will include a high-tech driving range and a centre of excellence.

The new club will be built in the heart of Education City, a 14 sq km area in the outskirts of Qatar’s capital Doha that is home to a number of education and research facilities.

According to a statement from the club, it is hoped the new facility will provide a framework to grow the game of golf in Qatar with a focus on making the sport fun and accessible for all’.

The AMLAK Holding firm is overseeing the project, and is working with the Golf Environment Organization to ensure the highest environmental standards are met throughout the design and construction phases.

“Qatar International Golf Club is a landmark project for Qatar and the world of golf,” said Abdul Aziz Al Emadi, CEO, AMLAK Holding. “The facility is built upon the guiding principles of Qatar’s 2030 vision with the aim of contributing to the human and economic development of our nation. By revolutionising the way golf is taught and enjoyed, we hope to encourage greater participation in the sport amongst the local community and our hope is that this system will provide a blue-print for growing levels of golf participation globally.”

“The course itself is based on solid foundations of science and research and will see it become truly world-leading in terms of both social and environmental sustainability,” Al Emadi added. “I’ve no doubt Qatar International Golf Club will be at the forefront of developing every aspect of the sport and inspire future generations, especially in Qatar.”

So far no course designer or scheduled date for completion has been announced, but this is expected in due course.
