Rees Jones continues renovation work at The Equinox

Rees Jones has reached the halfway point of a four-phase renovation project at The Golf Club at The Equinox in Manchester, Vermont.

Recent work on the course – originally laid out in 1927 by Walter Travis with Jones redesigning the layout in 1991 – has included a redesign of the eighteenth’s green surrounds and approach (including widening the approach and modifying both existing bunkers) as well as renovations to the greenside bunkers at the eighth, thirteenth and fourteenth holes.

“The new bunkers are a tremendous upgrade to the course,” said Jay Sheldon, general manager of The Equinox Golf Resort & Spa. “The eighteenth is now one of the signature holes on the course and will leave golfers wanting to play more.”

The first phase, which was completed in 2021, saw holes one, nine and 15 reworked as well as the removal of several fairway bunkers to improve pace of play.

“We’ve enjoyed our more than 30-year relationship with the club, including our ongoing efforts to update the strategic value, appearance, playability and maintainability of the bunkers,” said Jones. “We will continue working with the club to prioritise and implement the remaining master plan recommendations in the coming years. The completed work has been very well received by the members and resort guests, resulting in a significant increase of rounds played and overall golf revenue.”
