The Cliffs at Keowee Falls reopens following upgrade work

The Cliffs at Keowee Falls golf course has reopened following the completion of a US$450,000 project that saw a series of enhancements and upgrades take place.

The 7,171-yard course underwent an 18-hole green conversion, with the original bentgrass replaced by champion bermudagrass.

“By converting our greens, we minimise aeration cycles necessary to offer consistent, premium play during the peak season,” explained Jim Evans, senior agronomist at The Cliffs.

Troy Vincent of the Vincent Design firm managed the greens conversion alongside Evans, and helped soften the greens and make slight slope adjustments on the course.

Six new forward tees and a short game facility have also been added.

Originally designed by Jack Nicklaus’ firm, the course forms part of The Cliffs at Keowee Falls residential community, located near Salem, South Carolina. The Cliffs is a collection of seven communities spread across North and South Carolina.

“The highest priority of this project was to preserve the integrity of the designer’s vision for the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course,” said Brian Peeples, director of golf at the Cliffs Clubs. “Our members appreciate the pure, core golf experience Keowee Falls provides; our goal was simply to enhance that experience. The Cliffs is revolutionising the game of golf by stripping away factors that may intimidate our players. These small adjustments will provide a friendlier experience during play.”
