The October 2019 issue of Golf Course Architecture is out now!

The October 2019 issue of Golf Course Architecture magazine is out now, in both printed and digital formats.

The cover of this latest issue of GCA features the new Hoiana Shores layout in Vietnam. The course is the first in the country designed by Robert Trent Jones II, as we discover for the lead story of our Tee Box section.

Our main feature article for this issue explores design’s greatest challenge: to create a course that is fun and playable for average golfers while also being a challenge for the elite. Golf course architects from around the world, including Andrew Goosen, Jeff Brauer, Robin Hiseman, Scott Champion and Rick Phelps, share their views.

We have reports from three site visits: European Golf Design’s newly-opened Royal Norwich in the UK; the municipal Braemar Golf Course in Minnesota, where Richard Mandell has completed a transformation of the golf course; and Ålands Golfklubb in Finland, a Philip Spogárd renovation that could be one of Europe’s elite courses.

We also find out about Kyle Phillips’ redesign of Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles and hear from David Bily of Steiner & Partner about two entry-level golf experiences in Switzerland. And Benjamin Warren explains how his redesign plans of a municipal short course focus on accessibility for an entire community.

There is news of Rees Jones and Bill Bergin’s work at McLemore Club in Georgia; Art Schaupeter talks about his renovation project at Westwood Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri; and we hear about Peter Harradine’s remodel of Arosa Golf Club in Switzerland.

There’s plenty more too – enjoy the issue!
