Tom Lehman and Tripp Davis collaborate for new course in Florida

A new golf course is to be officially unveiled to the public next month at the Ocala Preserve in Ocala, Florida.

The Trilogy Golf Club at Ocala Preserve has been co-designed by Tom Lehman and Tripp Davis.

Lehman and Davis will lead a free walking tour of the course that will be open to the public on 2 February.

The course has been built on a site of only 50 acres, and a loop system will be deployed to help accommodate golfers of varying skill levels and enable them to play quicker rounds.

“The whole idea was to give the players a lot of variety in what they can play, play shots of great quality they would find on the best courses, and have the option to take less time to play,” Tripp Davis told GCA. “It is by no means traditional golf, nor was it meant to be – the whole intent was to make it great fun with a variety of options to play in a shorter amount of time.”

The course will use a variety of layouts and routings that will vary for players on different days of the week. These will vary from a short six-hole course that can be played in less than an hour, to a full 18-hole, par-72 course.

“Tom Lehman and I had a great time thinking outside the box to create as much variety as possible – something that can be very different day to day, create the ability for players to make the shots very playable by choosing wide conservative options or try a lot of different risk/reward type shots with smaller margins for error, and create a style that is both attractive and fun to play,” Davis added. “I really think this is a type of golf course design that will help keep players in the game and help provide a more comfortable environment for players to come to the game.”
