ASGCA grants Fellow status to three members at annual conference

Three members of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) have received Fellow member status at the organisation’s annual meeting.

San Diego’s Cary Bickler, Keith Evans of Lainsburg, Michigan, and former ASGCA president Michael Hurdzan were granted the honour at the meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bickler is the principal and owner of Cary Bickler Golf Course Design and has completed over 100 projects during his career, including designs at Borrego Springs Resort and Country Club in Borrego Springs, California, and Hawks Landing Golf Club at Yucca Valley, also in California.

Formerly an employee at Rees Jones’ firm, Keith Evans’ design work includes at Huntsville Golf Club in Pennsylvania; Thousand Oaks Golf Club at Grand Rapids, Michigan, and London Hunt and Golf Club, London, Ontario, Canada.

Michael Hurdzan has worked in the golf course design industry for 50 years and is a revered author on the subject, with six books released to date. He co-designed the 2017 US Open Championship host course at Erin Hills and also designed the Devils Pulpit Golf Course in Caledon, Ontario and Willowbend Country Club, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

“Achieving ASGCA fellow status is a tremendous professional and personal achievement,” said Lee Schmidt, the ASGCA’s recently appointed president. “Cary, Keith and Mike have given so much to the game, and their design work has evolved and grown over time. They are not only fine ASGCA members, they are examples to the entire golf industry of the positive impact that can be made through thoughtful dedication to craft, and commitment to doing things the right way.”
