Good progress being made on new golf course near Tbilisi

The construction of a new golf course in the nation of Georgia is progressing well.

Designed by Tilander Golf Design, the course has been under development for almost a year, with the firm working with Primera Residence Development on the project.

The first four holes are now seeded, with finishing work set to continue at a pace of one hole a week moving forward.

Located in hills close to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, the course has been designed to follow the existing landforms. Due to the site’s altitude being close to 700 metres above sea level, the trees and bushes are quite shallow. Therefore, to make the course look as natural as possible, no major earthmoving work is being done.

Due to the site’s high winds, hydromulch turf is being widely used on the fairways, roughs and around the bunkers. This type of grass becomes well established after just a few weeks following seeding.

The course’s roughs have been mixed with three different fescue grasses, while fairways and tees are comprised of perennial rye and fescue. The greens feature creeping bentgrass.

Construction work is being led by Latvian golf course construction company Modo Golf.

The construction element is set to be completed later this year, with a scheduled opening of the course planned for the second half of 2018.
