Andrew Green begins planning for Olympia Fields North course renovation

Andrew Green has started planning for a renovation of the North course at Olympia Fields Country Club, south of Chicago, USA.

Designed by Willie Park Jr, the course opened in 1923 and has since hosted the US Open, PGA Championship, US Amateur and BMW Championship.

“We are embarking on a journey to blend Wille Park Jr’s amazing original vision for the North course with the modern demands of championship golf,” said Green. “We intend to provide the world of golf with a one-of-a-kind canvas for great play that respects the legacy of golf at Olympia Fields and protects it for the future.”

Green will be using historic imagery of the course to guide work that relates to the overall landscape and style of golf features.

“While there will be a level of focus on future championships, the member experience will be at the forefront,” he said. “We want to maximise the variety and excitement of each hole and allow all levels of player to enjoy their journey around the North course.

“Forward tees, more width and a better connection to the ground game will be at the top of my mind. Willie Park Jr had a great handle on what makes golf great, so we know that infusing more of his character into the layout will only provide a higher quality of play for all.”

Bill McErlean, president of Olympia Fields CC, said: “We are delighted to have Andrew Green spearheading the restoration of our North course. His vision and dedication to honouring the original design while incorporating modern advancements align perfectly with our goal of maintaining the course’s historical integrity and elevating the playing experience for our members and guests.”
