Andrew Green looks to improve playing experience at Grey Oaks

Construction work is approaching completion on Andrew Green’s renovation of the Pine course at Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Florida.

Originally designed by Lloyd Clifton in 1993, the Pine course – the longest of three at the private club – has been known for its difficulty. The goal of Green’s work is to improve the playing experience, make maintenance easier and enhance aesthetics. The club says that it will reopen with a new strategy and character.

The renovation will involve widening fairways and green expansion, as well as bunker work and the addition of new tees, and it follows a 2022 project by Green to overhaul the short-game area.

Construction on the Pine course began in February 2023 and is expected to finish in July. It is expected to reopen in November 2023 following a four-month grow-in period.

Original designer Lloyd Clifton was known for his prolific work throughout Florida from the 1960s, and later alongside his son George Clifton and associate Ken Ezell. Their firm was also responsible for the Palm course at Grey Oaks, which opened in 1999, and Bob Cupp designed the Estuary course in 2002. Since then, Tim Liddy has redesigned both the Palm and Estuary courses.
