ASGCA releases 2019 list of ‘design excellence’ projects

The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) has released its 2019 list of Design Excellence Recognition Program honourees.

The eighth list of its kind highlights six recent projects completed by ASGCA member-architects that address unique design challenges as well as demonstrating innovation and problem-solving skills.

The list has been put together with input from representatives of the Club Managers Association of America, Golf Course Builders Association of America and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

The projects highlighted by the 2019 edition of the programme are

  • Bay Hill Club & Lodge short game area in Orlando, Florida (Thad Layton, ASGCA and Brandon Johnson, ASGCA)
  • The Dunes putting course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Mexico (Paul Cowley, ASGCA)
  • Maple Lane Golf Club in Sterling Heights, Michigan (Raymond Hearn, ASGCA)
  • McLemore Club in Rising Fawn, Georgia (Bill Bergin, ASGCA and Rees Jones, ASGCA)
  • TPC Colorado in Berthoud, Colorado (Arthur Schaupeter, ASGCA)
  • University Club of Milwaukee, Milwaukee (Andy Staples, ASGCA)

“There is a wonderful breadth of work represented in these projects, and I congratulate the facilities and the architects they have worked with,” said ASGCA President Jan Bel Jan. “There are now more than 100 total golf facilities profiled by the Design Excellence Recognition Program that illustrate the art and science of golf course architecture. In each case, it is the golfers and the host community who benefit from these tremendous partnerships.”

More details on each project will feature in upcoming editions of By Design, the ASGCA’s quarterly magazine published by the team responsible for Golf Course Architecture.
