Bald Mountain course to reopen in April after tree work

Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure, North Carolina, is under way with renovation work on its William Lewis-designed Bald Mountain golf course, which is scheduled to reopen in April.

The resort is aiming to improve course playability, restore original shot values and improve the look of the course’s surroundings.

A focus will be on reducing tree canopy coverage throughout the 6,300-yard layout, allowing more sunlight to reach areas around tees and green complexes. Tree lines will be restored to their original borders on several dogleg holes, giving golfers more options for approach shots.

New turf will be installed on several tee boxes and on fairways.

“Bald Mountain is loved by so many people and we’re excited to give golfers a fresh look of the course they enjoy so much,” said golf operations manager Adam Bowles.

The resort’s Apple Valley course was regrassed with new Champion bermuda in October.

“We’re committed to creating one of Western North Carolina’s best multi-course golf destinations, and the enhancements at Bald Mountain are a major step in that direction,” says general manager Jeff Geisler. “There are other exciting projects in the pipeline, and we look forward to showcasing Rumbling Bald to golfers this year and in the years to come.”
