Better Billy Bunker Method introduced at Cordillera Ranch course

A bunker renovation project has been completed at the Cordillera Ranch golf course near San Antonio, Texas.

The Better Billy Bunker Method has been installed on bunkers across the course, which was originally designed by Nicklaus Design.

With the Better Billy method, a two-inch gravel drainage layer is introduced over a polymer-sprayed subgrade, which helps bind the gravel together. Special ‘Bunker White’ sand has also been added to the bunkering, which covers an area of more than 100,000 sq ft of the 18-hole course.

Thanks to the Better Billy method, the bunkers at Cordillera Ranch will benefit from minimised erosion during rainfall. The burden on the course’s maintenance team will also be reduced.

The project has been carried out under the direction of the club’s general manager Monty Becton, director of agronomy Mark Semm, and director of golf Marc DeWall.

“Cordillera Ranch is committed to maintaining a top-rated golf course and facilities,” said Charlie Hill, president and chief operating officer for DH Investments, developer of Cordillera Ranch. “The bunker upgrade not only will strengthen the playability of the golf course, but also enhance its beautiful landscape.&rdquo
