Construction begins on new 18-hole golf facility in the Czech Republic

The construction of a new 18-hole golf facility in the Czech Republic is underway.

The facility has been designed by Jonathan Davison of the Create Golf firm and is being built at the Heipark resort near the town of Odry in east of the country.

Once complete, the facility will include the nine-hole Tošovice course, as well as a nine-hole academy course. The resort already has a driving range and putting green, but these will be replaced as part of the project’s second phase.

“Heipark is already a great resort that is very popular with families from around the area,” said Davison. “This project will enhance the facilities and make it even more attractive. Given the clientele, we anticipate that a lot of people will learn to play golf from scratch here – that’s why we are doing the academy course as the first phase.”

The course will be built in-house on a heavily undulating site of around 121 acres.

“There is around 70 metres of elevation change on the golf course site,” Davison said. “That made finding the right routing especially important, so that the course can be comfortably walkable – we’re pretty confident we have a solution that will work, and golfers will enjoy the walk.”

The academy course is likely to open in spring 2016, with the Tošovice course set to be completed by 2017.

“Golf has grown rapidly in the Czech Republic in the last ten to fifteen years, and it is a natural way to extend the appeal of our resort,” added Jiří Šindler, manager of the Heipark resort. “We are delighted with the work Jonathan has put in, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the golf course finished and in play.”
