Construction begins on second nine holes at Westham Golf Club

Construction of a second nine holes has started at Westham Golf Club in Moseley, Virginia.

Designed by Nicklaus Design in association with architect Tom Clark, the new nine holes will feature wide bermudagrass fairways, scruffy-edged bunkering and significant elevation changes.

Westham Golf Club is currently home to a nine hole course which opened in 2010. The additional nine is set to open in Spring 2015. Construction is being carried out by Sanders Golf, who have previously worked on the course at Valhalla, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, and Pinehurst No. 2.

Billy Casper Golf manages the Westham Golf Club, and the new course will be part of Magnolia Green, a master-planned community owned by iStar Financial.

“The current nine holes at Westham have received rave reviews from media, loyal daily-fee golfers, and Magnolia Green residents,” says Tom Page, vice president of iStar Financial. “The second nine will bring additional harmony and balance to the routing and golfer experience, and we are excited to team with Nicklaus Design and Sanders Golf to complete this world-class course.”

The signature second hole on the existing nine is a mid-length par four that features a downhill second shot to a heavily protected green that slopes from back to front. Once all 18 holes are open for play rerouting will take place, with this hole set to become the new eighteenth hole.
