Construction underway on new Städler design in eastern Germany

A new golf facility near the town of Halle (Saale) in eastern Germany is now in construction. It will comprise an 18-hole golf course, a nine-hole short course, practice facilities and a footgolf course.

Designed by Achim Reinmuth of Städler Golf Courses, the 18-hole course at Golfpark Hufeisensee is distinctive for its joint fairways, particularly on the holes closest to the clubhouse.

Reinmuth told GCA that the facility was the brainchild of a local businessman, and has been built on flat farmland located adjacent to lake Hufeisensee. The lake comes into play on the short par-four sixteenth hole and the par-three seventeeth, which plays directly over the water.

“There are three different design styles for each nine-hole loop,” Reinmuth explained. “One loop is called ‘avant garde’, and has large bunkers and sharp bunker edges, with volcano bunkers and large greens. One loop is called ‘golden age’ with naturalised bunkers with long grass at the bunker banks, and the other loop is called ‘classic’ with small rounded bunkers and a strategic placement of tree and planting areas.”

The course is complemented by extensive practice facilities, include a driving range, putting green and nine-hole short course. In addition, the facility will include a full eighteen-hole footgolf course, one of the first to be specially designed and built for this purpose.

The complex is set to open for play before the end of 2016.
