Curley-Wagner gets green light for Wildcreek redesign

Construction is set to begin on the redesign of Wildcreek Golf Course in Washoe County, Nevada. With funding in place, Curley-Wagner Golf Design has the go-ahead to move forward with the plan it developed in 2022.

The project will see the existing nine-hole layout completely redesigned and will be used by First Tee’s Northern Nevada chapter. In 2022, Curley said: “Apart from three corridors, the rest are new holes on land not previously used, or playing over old golf terrain at a different angle.

“The new facility will bring a much-needed golf experience that caters to not only local golfers but also the largest First Tee facility in the entire country. The new nine-hole course is a combination of some existing and some new holes offering a scorecard of 3,041 yards. The par 35 layout will feature bold visuals but with a strong emphasis on playability for those taking up the game. The course and its ancillary facilities will provide a much-needed addition to a golf starved market.”

In addition to the new design, a large practice facility will be built, including a new 1.5-acre putting course, double-ended driving range and extensive short-game area.

Renovations to the nine-hole executive course are also planned. “It will benefit from an overall increase in quality and conditioning,” said Curley.

The new double-ended driving range will feature a triple-decked structure that overlooks downtown Reno, which is just four miles from the property. The back of the range will incorporate a state-of-the-art facility for the University of Nevada-Reno golf team.

LPGA Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan, who lives in the region, is also involved in the project, and the facility will be managed by Mazz Golf Management.

“We are very honoured to be involved with this project and look forward to many years of cultivating new golfers and providing affordable, quality golf to the public,” said Curley.
