Design Masters Conference to celebrate impact of early architects

This year’s Scottish International Golf Course Architects Conference will celebrate the lasting impact some of the legendary golf course architects have had on the game.

Taking place in Inverness, Scotland, in March 2017, the event will look at the impact the likes of Old Tom Morris, James Braid, Donald Ross, Willie Park Jr and Alister MacKenzie have had on modern design, and their enduring effect on the golf course architecture field.

The event has been organised by the Golf Tourism Development Group, and will be chaired by Golf Course Architecture’s editor Adam Lawrence.

Others taking part include architect and president of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects Tom Mackenzie, Bradley S. Klein, architecture editor of Golfweek magazine, and Thad Layton of the Arnold Palmer Design Company. The keynote speech will be delivered by clubhouse architect Mungo Park, the grandson of Willie Park Jr.

Delegates at the conference will visit a number of historic courses in the Scottish Highlands, such as Royal Dornoch Golf Club, which features an Old Tom Morris-designed course from 1886. There will also be visits to Brora Golf Club and Castle Stuart.

Design Masters: The Scottish International Golf Course Architects Conference takes place from 1-2 March 2017.
