East Orange Golf Course completes renovations with clubhouse opening

East Orange Golf Course in Short Hills, New Jersey, US has officially completed a three year renovation project, marked by the grand opening of its new clubhouse earlier this month.

The facility was built from the ground up following the renovation of the municipally-owned East Orange Golf Course and features a new Pro Shop and the Par 440 restaurant and lounge.

The course closed for renovations in 2014 before partially re-opening a year later as work on the course, led by golf course architect Stephen Kay, continued. Originally designed by Tom Bendelow in 1926, Kay aimed to restore the course’s old-fashioned charm and make it appealing to players of all abilities. As part of the renovations, the new facility features two newly-constructed golf holes, a driving range and putting green.

“The completion of this project is one of the most fulfilling of my administration,” said local mayor Lester E. Taylor III. “We took a gamble when we decided to close the course in 2014, but our gamble has paid off. The transformation of this golf course required the hard work and commitment of a solid team of experts who believed in our vision to set the standard for urban excellence and rebuild this asset into what it was intended to be – a quality and accessible course for public play.”
