Faldo signs agreement to design Pakistan’s first signature course

The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in Multan, Pakistan, has signed an agreement with Faldo Design to produce the country’s first-ever signature golf course on the site of a high-end residential community.

“There is a real energy and inspiration when you design a course in a new golf market as the layers of opportunity are plenty,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “This course will not only represent a new recreation and lifestyle property in Pakistan but also a true opportunity for our sport.

“I have personally come to know the promise of young Pakistani golfers, through their participation in the Faldo Series,” he added. “Our vision in this project with DHA in Multan incorporates the local texture while providing strategy and facilities equal to memorable championship courses around the world.”

DHA develops land in line with government policies for the purposes of creating and implementing investment opportunities, communities and facilities. Brigadier Nadeem Aslam, project director for DHA in Multan, said: “Golf is a game of passion and a fast-growing sport in Pakistan. We have talent, but it needs to be nurtured to compete at international level and my objective is to see Pakistani golfers participating on Asian and European Tours.

“Being Pakistan’s first signature course, complimented by a ‘performance academy’ and managed and operated by an internationally reputed company, this golf course will become golf’s centre of excellence,” said Aslam. “Focused on Pakistan’s future with golf, the course aims to host Faldo Series Championships and other international events. This championship eighteen-hole golf course will be part of a prestigious golf community project which includes luxury villas and apartments besides other hospitality and commercial precincts.”

The agreement was signed at the Faldo Design office in Windsor, England, with Faldo noting that Pakistan will be the 25th country in which Faldo Design has worked.

Faldo Design says it has begun successful and productive working sessions with the DHA project team to finalise vision and concepts, including making a first official visit to the site in late June.
