First step in ambitious London plan
Developer Tony Menai Davis, the owner of the Shire club in north London, has opened the West London Golf Centre, a new practice facility and the first step in an ambitious series of golf developments in the area.
The centre, which includes an academy run by Sky Sports golf coach Scott Cranfield, and an American Golf superstore, will be joined next year by a nine hole golf course. A further eighteen holes, located on a nearby site just across the A4180, are planned for a 2016 opening.
Menai Davis said: “West London Golf Centre is another piece in the jigsaw. We’ve been planning to develop the old Lime Trees site for a number of years, and it all came together in 2012. Our aim is to provide the finest golf practice facility in west London, and I think people will also love what we’ve done with the accompanying nine hole course when it opens next year.
“The adjacent West London Links will be an even bigger attraction for this area, when it opens in 2016, and beyond that we will soon reveal plans for at least one other extraordinary new golf course in the north London area, to be opened before the decade is out.”
Menai Davis said the north London course, which is believed to be located on a site near the intersection of the M1 and A41 in Edgware, would be the first UK course for a world-renowned golf architect. He added the family intended to file a planning application for the project before the end of the year. The developments are all believed to be inert landfill-based projects.
