Gil Hanse to renovate The Links at Spanish Bay in 2026

Hanse Golf Course Design will begin a renovation of The Links at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California, in March 2026.

Pebble Beach Company unveiled the timeline for the renovation that will see the course reopen in spring 2027, a few months before the US Open is held at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner will lead the project and are planning to transform Spanish Bay from an 1980s-era, Scottish-inspired links to a modern California coastal layout. The project will be completed while remaining within the existing development footprint.

Another focus of the renovation is to enhance the course’s environmental credentials and upgrade its infrastructure.

“Working with Pebble Beach Company in a world-class setting like this is a can’t miss opportunity for our team,” said Hanse. “Golf on the Monterey Peninsula is an unrivaled experience, and we are thrilled at the opportunity to put our stamp on one of the most spectacular backdrops in the world.”

David Stivers, CEO of Pebble Beach Company, said: “The focus of this project is to further enhance the golf experience at Pebble Beach Resorts. Partnering with Gil, Jim and their team gives us the utmost confidence that Spanish Bay will be a ‘must play’ on par with its fellow courses.”

Starting in spring 2025, the Spanish Bay boardwalk – damaged by recent storms – will be reconstructed. The boardwalk provides public coastal access and long-range views between the golf course and beach.
