Gordon Lewis completes renovation work at The Forest’s Bobcat course

The Bobcat course at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida, following a six-month renovation project.

Gordon Lewis, the course’s original architect, was hired to update the course design and improve its environmental sustainability.

Other elements of the work included the introduction of new USGA greens with TifEagle grasses, as well as new tees and new bunkering.

Fairways have been regrassed with Celebration bermudagrass, and a new irrigation system has also been put in place to improve drainage.

“Hundreds of new native trees and several thousand nutrient absorbing littoral plants have been planted,” said Matt Gaudet, director of golf course maintenance at The Forest Country Club. “Water conservation and improved irrigation efficiency were also prerequisites for the project. Through the updated pumping systems The Forest is able to irrigate nearly 100 per cent of both golf courses with reclaimed wastewater. Water usage is also declining as the total irrigated acres decreases.”

The work on the Bobcat course follows on from a similar renovation project to the club’s other 18-hole course, The Bear, which was completed in 2010
