Holes reopen at Port Jefferson Country Club following renovation work

Nine holes are now open for play at Port Jefferson Country Club in with the course’s other nine expected to be open within the month following a renovation project.

Located in Harbor Hills, New York and lying on Long Island’s north shore, golf has been played on the site since 1908. Boasting a rich history, the current course incorporates the design work of Devereux Emmett, Alexander Findlay and Alfred H. Tull.

The recent renovation has been led by Stephen Kay’s and Doug Smith’s Golf Course Design firm, and a large amount of the project’s focus has been on the course’s bunkering and greens.

“The golf course is now open. Holes 10-18 are open for play. We are expecting to open holes 1-9 in approximately two weeks,” said Bill Mackedon, the club’s PGA Pro. “We are undergoing a long-needed enlargement to the putting green. In the past the putting green grass has nearly died due to heavy traffic and the green has been near closing. With this enlargement we have doubled the size of the putting green which will promote proper turf health and growth. The new putting green and men’s tenth tee will open approximately one month after the sod has been put down. The sod is expected to be put down next week some time, weather permitting.”
