Huxley Golf installs short game practice area at University of Stirling

Huxley Golf has designed and installed a short game practice area at the University of Stirling in Scotland, UK.

The university, which is supported by the R&A, wanted to upgrade its specialist golf practice facilities.

“I wanted to create a tournament quality realistic all-weather green that would mirror ball roll and speed to help our students really work on their putting and chipping techniques,” said high performance coach Dean Robertson. “It was also important that our new short game practice area was effectively designed, not only to provide a challenge for our students, but also to be sympathetic to our wonderful natural environment.”

Huxley Golf installed an oval shaped putting and chipping green, measuring 60ft long by 37ft wide and designed to recreate the undulations of natural turf. The putting area features a robust Huxley Golf Premier Leisure Turf fringe.

“Huxley Golf’s team expertly guided us through the process from initial consultation through to installation and we’re extremely pleased with the result,” said Robertson.

The University of Stirling has a rich history of producing high-level players and is home to a nine-hole par-three course, a 280-yard driving range, a video analysis room and sports science laboratories.

“We were delighted to be asked by the University of Stirling to help them with this project,” said Paul Huxley, director of Huxley Golf. “It’s extremely rewarding to think that the green that we helped create will play a small part in coaching tomorrow’s successful golf champions.”
