Jackson and Kahn describe Malibu Golf Club redesign as ‘rare opportunity’

Following the announcement of their firm’s appointment to lead a redesign of the course at the Malibu Golf Club, Tim Jackson and David Kahn of Jackson Kahn Golf Design spoke to GCA about the project.

“We feel extremely excited and privileged to have the opportunity to work alongside Tom Hix and Ron Davis on The Malibu Institute project,” Kahn said.

Located in California’s Santa Monica Mountain range, the 18-hole Malibu Golf Club course was designed by William Francis Bell in 1976.

“With a major focus on reducing the existing environmental footprint and reintegrating native species onto the property, the project will be a standard bearer for sustainable golf development,” explained Jackson. “The support for the project within the community and stake holder organisations within the Santa Monica Mountains has been amazing.”

Kahn also provided a fascinating before and after video for his firm’s vision of the course’s fifth hole, available to view below.

“In addition to the sustainable golf, the project will be a model for development as well over 224,000 sq ft of LEEDS Platinum buildings featuring overnight accommodations, conference facilities and a state-of-the-art wellness spa,” Jackson added. “Having the chance to craft the type of golf we envision at The Malibu Institute, in such an incredible setting, is a rare opportunity.”
