Kensington reopens following $7.2 million renovation by RTJ II

Kensington Golf & Country Club in Naples, Florida, has reopened its golf course following a $7.2 million renovation project by original designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The project included the planting of new varieties of bermudagrass, including Bimini on fairways and TifEagle on greens, as well of the addition of drainage to create firm and fast playing conditions. Additional changes included new ‘ribbon’ teeing areas to create alternative hole distances and angles of approach, and updated bunkers with improved visibility and new liners. Concrete cart paths were removed from landing areas and a new irrigation control system was installed.

“I take tremendous pride in the design work done at Kensington Golf & Country Club over the years, starting with the original golf course more than 25 years ago and followed by the renovation completed in 2006,” said Jones. “Now, we have a completely reinvigorated and updated golf course, in concert with our strategic design philosophies.”

The work on the course comes as part of a series of renovations carried out on facilities at the Florida club, which first opened in 1994, including a recent $3.5 million clubhouse renovation.

“With this latest work now completed on our golf course, we can offer current and prospective members a practically brand-new club experience within an established club setting,” said David Krzywonos, general manager of Kensington Golf & Country Club. “We are especially proud to complete this latest project with no incremental assessment.”
