New Chatham Hills course to open for play later this month
A new golf course designed by a team from Dye Designs is to open this later this month.
Construction of the 7,215-yard Chatham Hills course in Westfield, Indiana, began in November 2014, and forms part of an upscale residential community.
The course has been developed on a hilly site featuring numerous streams, ravines and forested areas. The land was originally purchased in 1835 as part of the Northwest Territory and passed down through eight generations.
“The challenge at Chatham Hills was making the course bend to follow the unique contours, rolling hills and flowing creeks present in the land – elements that are typically foreign to most Midwestern golf courses,” said Pete Dye. “The new community is situated on 800 acres of land and has 85 feet of elevation change, offering golfers a picturesque, challenging and fun day on the links.”
Residents and members at Chatham Hills will also have access to a nine-hole executive par-three course, which has been designed by Dye’s firm.
The project marked a return to Indiana for Dye, whose first design was in the town of Greenwood, to the south of Indianapolis, in 1962.
Dye will visit the course on 29 September to hit the ceremonial tee shot as part of the grand opening event for the new course.
