Nicklaus returns to sole Minnesota design for renovation

Nicklaus Design has started work on a renovation project at Bearpath Golf & Country Club, near Minneapolis, USA. It will work alongside contractor Duininck Golf and Barr Engineering on the project, which will modernise the design of the course while also solving erosion issues.

Bearpath originally opened in 1996 and is the only Nicklaus Design layout in Minnesota. The owners are working with the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District in preparation for the project, as there is opportunity to improve streams, particularly on holes twelve, thirteen and sixteen, during construction. Nicklaus Design’s lead architect Chris Cochran is also planning bunker renovation, cart path replacement, and green regrassing and resizing.

“Bearpath is a great property and facility,” said Judd Duininck, general manager of Duininck Golf. “I have been there many times over the years. It has been fun to see the improvements to the facility over the years and greatly appreciate being a part of making it a better place for everyone in the long term.”

Kevin Cashman, PGA head golf professional at Bearpath, said: “We’ve worked with many of the top golf course construction companies in the country, and it was important that we partner with a contractor who could respect and execute our golf course master plan to the highest of standards. We were confident Duininck Golf was the right choice.”

Brad Lindaman, senior water resources engineer at Barr Engineering, said: “I have over 30 years of experience in watershed organisation management and I’m intent on making sure there’s mutual benefit in this project, to both the watershed district and Bearpath Golf & Country Club.”
