Omni Barton Creek reopens Fazio Canyons following renovation

Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, has reopened its Fazio Canyons course following a seven-month renovation project.

The course, originally designed by Tom Fazio in 1999,  features stately red oaks, sycamore trees, limestone cliffs and the weaving Short Spring Branch creek.

The $5 million project includes new tees for additional length and variety, new bunkers, and reworking greens to make them more playable.

“We are very excited about the work completed at Fazio Canyons,” said Fazio, who returned to the club to oversee the project. “The evolution of the golf course will maximise playability and playing conditions while the additional length will allow for golf at all levels of play.”

Spencer Cody, corporate director of club and golf operations, said: “The modernisation and reimagination of the Tom Fazio gem will allow for the same stellar playing conditions members and resort guests have come to expect across the Omni golf portfolio, and will position the facility to host any calibre of event.”

Irrigation has also been updated throughout the course. “The new state-of-the-art irrigation system gives us more control and the ability to ensure optimal course conditions throughout the year,” said Scott Abernathy, Omni corporate director of agronomy.

The course work is the latest part of a resort-wide renovation that has included the introduction of TopTracer Range technology at its driving range, new hotel rooms and upgraded spa and dining facilities.
