Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club completes 27-hole renovation project

Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club, which lies on the Fort Morgan peninsula in Gulf Shores, Alabama, has completed renovation work on its 27 holes.

Bunkers on the Marsh, Lakes and Cypress nines have either been removed, reshaped or relocated as part of a six-month project led by Bob Barrett, founder of golf course management company Honours Golf, which was acquired by Troon in 2019.

Work on the layout, which was originally designed by Earl Stone in 1995, has also included tree removal, to increase air circulation and improve agronomic conditions, and clearance of undergrowth from the forest floor. Cart paths throughout the course have been repaired or replaced.

“After a tough year filled with the pandemic and hurricanes, we are encouraged by what the future holds at Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in 2021 and beyond,” said Barrett. “Gulf Shores has always been a special place to us, the enhancements and upgrades made to the courses and clubhouse create a golf experience that is truly exceptional.”

In addition to golf course renovations, work has taken place on the clubhouse and The Racquet Club at Peninsula. Eight tennis courts were resurfaced, four new pickleball courts were added, new fitness equipment was installed, and the indoor saltwater pool was refurbished.
