PGA Centenary at Gleneagles selected as host course for 2019 Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup will head to Scotland in 2019, with the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles selected to host the tournament.

A committee from the Ladies European Tour selected the Scottish bid over a bid from Sweden, which had put forward Bro Hof Slott as its proposed venue.

“The competitive nature of the bidding process for the 2019 event is testimony to the growth in interest in women’s professional golf and women’s sport in general,” said Ivan Khodabakhsh, chief executive of Ladies European Tour. “The Solheim Cup has grown to be the biggest event in the women’s game delivering outstanding value to its partners at a local, national and international level.”

The Scottish bid was led by the EventScotland team from VisitScotland’s Events Directorate, and received backing from the Scottish government.

“This is tremendous news, not only for golf tourism and events in Scotland but for Scotland as a whole,” said Nicola Sturgeon, first minister of Scotland. “As a nation we take a huge amount of pride in welcoming major events to our country and in women’s golf they don’t come any bigger than The Solheim Cup.”

The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles was designed by Jack Nicklaus’s firm and opened in 1993. More recently, it underwent a series of alterations in preparation for the 2014 Ryder Cup
