Pinnacle course at Troon North reopens with new greens and bunkers

The Pinnacle course at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, is reopening today following a four-month enhancement project.

Green complexes have been returned to their original shape, size and contour by using GPS coordinates gathered from Weiskopf’s original design. Greens were resurfaced with creeping A4 bentgrass and collars were resurfaced with TifGrand semi-dwarf bermudagrass.

Ron Despain, vice president of golf course development at Troon, oversaw the project and work was performed by the club’s agronomy team led by senior agronomist Brad Anderson.

All greenside and fairway bunkers have new drainage, liners and Pioneer bunker sand.

This summer’s enhancements to the Pinnacle course follow a similar project conducted during the summer 2017 on the club’s Monument course, also a Weiskopf design.

“The course enhancements made over the past two summers have improved two already incredible golf courses in Monument and Pinnacle,” said Tim Schantz, president at Troon. “Hats off to Ron Despain and the agronomy team at Troon North on a job well done. Moving forward we’ll continue to refine and reinvest in our flagship facility to keep it atop the leaderboard of outstanding Arizona golf properties.”

The recent renovations were the first major changes on the property since a 2007 renovation and reconfiguration of all 36 holes, under Weiskopf’s direction.
