Player to open BlackSeaRama

The BlackSeaRama resort in Bulgaria, with its Gary Player signature golf course, opens on 18 July.

Located on the coast near the city of Varna, BlackSeaRama sits on an elevated plateau with views of the Black Sea. The 7,200 yard course is part of Bulgaria's first gated golf community, and has a links-style layout with fescue covered landforms. The resort's co-owner, Krassimir Guergov, also serves as president of the Bulgarian Golf Association.

Within 13 miles of BlackSeaRama, Gary Player Design is completing the construction phases at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Spa Resort, which is slated to open in late 2010. Player said: “The site at Thracian Cliffs reminds me of Pebble Beach and I expect the golf course to be just as dramatic.” Jonathan Pendry of British firm Braemar Golf, which is managing the construction, recently told GCA it was among the best sites for a golf course he had ever seen.

Thracian Cliffs, also located on the northern Black Sea coast, is one of Bulgaria's largest and encompassing projects. The US$152 million development will include a marina village, a mineral spa, boutique hotel, villas, townhouses and apartments.
