Raymond Hearn completes renovation work at Midlothian

Midlothian Country Club in Chicago has unveiled its golf course, which has been renovated by Raymond Hearn.

For his renovation, which began in September 2021, Hearn has kept one eye on the course’s past – it was originally designed by Herbert Tweedie in 1898, and Donald Ross carried out work on the course ahead of it hosting the 1914 US Open.

“It is an honour to work on a such an incredible course like Midlothian that has stood the test of time and renovate it for today’s game,” said Hearn. “Our goal was to restore and renew the layout for players of all abilities to savour their time and enjoyment on one of Chicago’s true golf treasures.”

All 82 bunkers have been renovated for increased playability and easier maintenance, and now feature ProAngle sand. Hearn’s work has also included recreating some pin positions that were part of the course setup in the 1920s. And to meet the demands of the modern game, Hearn has moved tees back to lengthen the course.

Matt Barry, club president, said: “Our membership here at Midlothian was looking for a renovation that respected our classic layout while honouring its historical look and feel. Ray Hearn was diligent in working with us to understand our priorities and the renovation has blended in seamlessly, our members are beyond thrilled with the results.”
