Renovation project to begin at Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate

A project that will see renovations carried out on the two golf courses at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate in Florida, US, will begin later this year.

Home to two courses designed by Greg Norman Golf Course Design, work will commence at Omni Orlando in June, initially focusing on the International Course.

All 18 greens will be constructed as part of the work on the International Course, while all greenside bunkers will be restored to their original design. Champions Bermudagrass will be introduced to the fairways and tees, with the aims of creating faster conditions and a greater tolerance to cold and traffic.

The renovations to the National Course will begin in spring 2017, and will include work on the course’s bunkering, returning the greens to their original size, and the sprigging of Champions Bermudagrass.

An architect is expected to be appointed to lead the project within the next few weeks.

“We are thrilled to begin this significant rejuvenation project and truly look forward to the results,” said Patrick Dill, director of golf for Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate. “We decided to go with the Champions Bermuda because it’s a little more cold tolerant. It holds its colour better, it rarely goes dormant in our region, and we won’t have to overseed. All in all, a dramatic benefit for our courses.”
