River Course at Kiawah Island Club reopens following renovation work

The River Course at Kiawah Island Club in South Carolina, US has reopened following extensive renovation work.

Major updates have been made to the course’s bunkering, with the introduction of the ‘Better Billy Bunker Liner system’. This helps improve bunker consistency thanks to a manufactured rock binder that holds the gravel blanket in place.

Work has also been carried out to improve turf conditions, while ten sets of forward tees have also been added to the course. The overall yardage of the course is reduced by 460 yards when played from these tees.

The River Course at Kiawah Island Club was originally designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1995. The club is also home to the 18-hole Cassique course, which was designed by Tom Watson.

“Golf courses are evolving landscapes and infrastructure needs to be monitored,” said Tom Fazio. “Over time, components must be replaced to maintain proper function and allow the golf course managers to produce excellent quality conditions. We are proud to have been involved with the River Course renovation. These improvements will make the golf course more playable for the membership and will help maintain the high quality golf experience that the River Course has always provided well into the future.”
