Spring 2015 opening scheduled for Rees Jones’ prairie course

A new course designed by Rees Jones’ firm – The Falls at Grand Falls & Casino Golf Resort – is progressing well, with a grand opening set to place next spring.

Located in Larchwood, Iowa, the site lies close to the state border with South Dakota, in an area famous for its casinos.

Jones said of The Falls site: “This is a beautiful lay of land and I plan to make it a prairie course, using the native prairie grasses and natural contours, designed with the wind in mind as well.”

The tees, greens and fairways of the 18 hole, 7,100 yard course have been seeded with bentgrass.

While the course won’t be officially opened until next year, Grand Falls & Casino Golf Resort will invite selected guests to take a look at the course and play the back nine.

Plans for the course were first covered by GCA back in June 2013, but the course has come a long way since then, as these images kindly supplied by Rees Jones Golf Design show:

GCA will be visiting the project later in this year, so look out for more detailed coverage down the line.
