Spring 2023 issue of ASGCA’s By Design magazine is out now

The Spring 2023 issue of By Design magazine from the American Society of Golf Course Architects is now available in digital format.

For the main feature, By Design explores how the current economic landscape is impacting the way clubs and designers are planning for the future. Golf course architects Tom Marzolf, Rees Jones, Richard Mandell and Shawn Smith provide their perspectives, alongside those of Bill Shonk of Princess Anne CC, Bob Haddad of Harrison Lake CC, developer Steve Henke, and Tom Smith, former general manager of Falling Rock.

The issue also takes a look at ‘Duel on the Hill’, an out-of-the-box design that has nine sets of twin holes that play alongside each other. The concept is the result of a collaboration between golf course architects Forrest Richardson, Jeff Danner and Mark Fine.

There’s much more too, including golf historian Mark Wagner reflecting on the layouts created by Arthur Jack Snyder in Hawaii; news of Tom Clark’s new par-three course, The Battlefield, at Shangri-La Resort; images from the from the 2023 GCSAA Conference & Trade Show in Orlando, Florida; and a sketch by Agustin Pizá of The Pit, his multi-purpose golf concept that centres on a large freeform putting green.

By Design is free of charge. To subscribe, visit the By Design page of the ASGCA website, where you can also review the entire back catalogue.
