Squaw Creek course reopens following Colligan Golf Design project

Colligan Golf Design has completed a renovation and restoration project at the Squaw Creek Golf Club in Willow Park, Texas.

The firm’s John Colligan and Trey Kemp were tasked with leading the work back in 2015. Squaw Creek was originally designed by Ralph Plummer and opened in 1971.

Kemp and Colligan decided not to alter the original Plummer routing, and instead focused their work on the course’s tees, greens and bunkers.

The project saw the renovation of all the tees to help increase their size and the course’s length. More forward tees were added to help make the course more enjoyable for every level of play.

The architects also worked to enhance the fairways and allow for more shots to hold. 419 bermudagrass has therefore been put in place, and a new irrigation and drainage system has been introduced.

Greens and their surrounds have been redesigned and reshaped with the aim of giving them a more ‘traditional’ look. The greens have also been increased in size at certain points, and have been sprigged with MiniVerde bermudagrass.

The course’s bunkering has been aesthetically improved and now feature the Better Billy Bunker liner and Premier White sand.
